Van Gogh painted Starry Night in an Asylum at Saint-Remy in 1889, three months before his suicide in 1880 when he was thirty seven years old.
In this painting we can see a kind of dark castle rising up through the houses below it, covered up with some pretty beautiful stars and the moon. Is a lovely scenery, is like something dark is in this castle, something that the people who live in the houses can't control, is like a scene of some suspense movie.
I like it because it is a painting where you can imagine some story, why is this dark castle there? Who is in there? I think that this kind of a castle is the den of some creature who rules the small town, kind of the big brother, and only at night the people of the small town can feel free, so the stars and the moon shines for them, trying to tell them that everything is going to be ok.
